WTF! Chemical reaction opens the gates of hell: NH4Cr2O7 + HgSCN
In this video we will see how to "play" a volcanic eruption in the laboratory, the experiment (entertainment) is to add the mercuric thiocyanate (HgSCN) inside the ammonium dichromate (NH4Cr2O7), after developing the reaction by adding energy, in this case, by turning on the compound with a lighter. The reaction develops a real volcano that, in the final part, creates a solid compound similar to tentacles (in some types of reaction are composed of molten sugar and coal), erroneously when it was discovered that this reaction is believed to open the gates for the hell. Today it is commonly used for scientific experiments or fireworks very appreciated by the public for what happens in the latter case often the compound is sold under the name of "Snakes of the Pharaoh" because this reaction was discovered in Egypt. Now we just have to see the video to enjoy another pearl of ancient and modern chemistry!
