It was held on Saturday 29 July 2017 the expected UFC 214, which saw as the main event the expected Cormier vs Jones II. At the Honda Center in Anaheim (California), the two fighters met for the second time after the first match in January 2015 won by Jones for unanimous decision.
From that day on Jon "Bones" Jones started a series of problems that led UFC to deprive him of the title, then won by Daniel Cormier at UFC 187 in May 2015. The Cormier vs. Jones II rematch was canceled twice, but at Anaheim, the fight finally got on stage.
Jon Jones was once again a winner, this time in a more brilliant and spectacular way. The 30-year-old Rochester has won for KO on the third round, recapturing his title and confirming it as a formidable champion despite the many problems of recent years. After three very well balanced rounds, Jones hits Cormier with a powerful kick on the temple, Cormier loses his senses and tries to get away but Jones manages to land and win the match for TKO.
Immediately after the win, the new middleweight champion openly challenged Brock Lesnar, and at the same time he paid tributo to Cormier for pushing him to a higher level.
