SBK Monza 2000 - Greatest overtake ever by Troy Bayliss (Ducati 996 R)
Troy Bayliss arrives at Monza in 2000 almost unknown and is presented right away in style, passing four riders in a single detached instill the main straight. Among other things these four drivers were: Noriyuki Haga, Colin Edwards, Pierfrancesco Chili and Akira Yanagawa, all superstars of the World Superbike Championship.
Despite not getting the win that weekend, Bayliss managed to close both races in fourth place. These results and its spectacular maneuver convinced the Ducati top management to focus on him all season. The Australian was in fact called in for the injured Carl Fogarty and, after a disastrous weekend in Japan on his debut in the World Superbike with Ducati 996 R, he managed to redeem itself in Monza.
That was only the beginning of the successful career of Troy Bayliss, who in World Superbike will win as many as 3 world championships (2001, 2006 and 2008, always in Ducati), also becoming the second most successful rider in this category just after Carl Fogarty.
Bayliss is also the only driver in the history of the sport to be able to win in the same year a World Superbike and a MotoGP race, leaving an indelible mark in the world of motorcycle enthusiasts, especially in Ducati fans which Bayliss has always remained faithful.
In this video we can see the amazing overtaking by Troy Bayliss in the 2000 Italian GP at Monza, one of the best ever!
