The historical track of Spa-Francorchamps was the scene of many epic moments during the 59 Formula One races played on. Everybody remembers the duels between Prost and Senna, the first win of a young Michael Schumacher, the amazing overtake made by Hakkinen against Schumi, the incredible crash after the first corner in the 1998 or the accident between Schumacher and Coulthard in the same year.
But one of the most incredible things happened in Spa was the one occured to Ralf Schumacher in the 2001. After the second start, a bad crash between Eddie Irvine and Luciano Burti necessitated a red flag and a new (the third) starting grid. While the countdown was at the end, Ralf's mechanics were still working on his Williams and, trying to finish faster, they forgot the car on the pit jack. Other drivers started regularly the formation lap, Ralf was still lifted on, watching all the cars overtaking him and cannot do anything but shake his head, waiting and waiting.
He had to wait that all the cars overtake him before the mechanics could take off the pit jacks and let he start, but he had to keep the last position and start at the end of the starting grid. From first to last only for a mistake!
